What Is A Solar Battery?

Solar PV panels produce energy that needs to be used immediately (a ‘use it or lose it scenario’), but for many households this isn’t feasible. Broadly speaking solar energy is mainly generated in the day, while most demand for power is in the evening. Solar batteries solve this conundrum by storing any excess energy generated from your panels which you can then use at another time. So when the weather is bad, or energy from your main supplier is particularly expensive, you can utilise the energy that is stored in your solar battery.

You don’t even need solar PV panels to take advantage of a solar battery. If you have a time-of-use electricity tariff you can charge your battery at off peak times, then use the energy at peak times. Many households do not have time-of-use tariffs but this is changing with the current roll out of smart meters.
